Welcome to Wasilla, Alaska

Wasilla, founded in 1917, is located on the main line of the Alaska Railroad about 45 miles north of Anchorage. Between the Matanuska and Susitna valleys of Southcentral Alaska, you arrive in Wasilla by automobile via the Parks Highway.

Current population is just over 5,100 residents and other the past several years has been one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. Wasilla was incorporated in 1974 and is governed by a six-member city council and an elected Mayor.

Alaska Departments of Environmental Conservation, Labor, Divisions of Public Assistance, Social Services, and Mat-Su Legislative Information Office are located in Wasilla. Federal installations are the FAA Wasilla and Veterans Center.

The average temperature in Wasilla in December is 13F and scorching 58F in July. Average daylight hours in December are only 5 while July daylight hours are 19, which may help to explain the high temps.
